Consultation has concluded
Council has undertaken a review of the Griffith Regional Aquatic Leisure Centre (GRALC) with a view to ensuring the facility provides services the community needs in the most efficient and cost-effective way.
One recommendation from the review was;
Reconsider the service offering and whether Council is best placed to be the provider/operator of services currently provided at GRALC in particular:
Investigate leasing the Gym to a private contractor. This should explore building improvements to enable 24-hour access, and/or increase fees to be more commercially aligned.
If Council was to consider outsourcing the gymnasium, a number of issues will need to be considered as follows;
The gymnasium would need modifications to the existing building to accommodate a new entrance and provide the ability to operate on a 24hour basis which will require some capital expenditure from Council.
Outsourcing the gymnasium will result in a new operator running the facility and therefore setting fees and charges and memberships at their discretion i.e. Council will not have input to those charges.
Users of the facility that may want to have access to both the gym and the pool facilities will need to have separate memberships.
