Griffith City Beautification and Tourism Enhancement Project Stage 1

Help shape a more vibrant, connected Griffith

Griffith City Council is excited to share that we’ve received $3 million through the NSW Sustainable Communities Program, supported by an additional $1 million from Council, bringing the total project investment to $4 million.

This funding will help us deliver important upgrades that enhance Griffith’s liveability and celebrate our city’s natural and urban spaces. Works will focus on improving the Lake Wyangan Foreshore and enhancing the Griffith CBD, making these much-loved areas more welcoming, accessible and sustainable.

The CBD Strategy has been a very useful reference document to provide justification for several projects to uplift the CBD Streetscape.

Scope

A range of ideas, submissions, and suggestions have already been received from the community. Some of these ideas have been implemented, others are new or repeated and a few fall outside the scope of the current grant and will be reserved for future opportunities.

The $3 million in grant funding must be allocated across 10 specific project categories:

  • Lake Wyangan Foreshore improvements - Council’s $1 million contribution, which is included in the existing capital works program for 2025/26, will also allow us to continue enhancing Lake Wyangan’s recreation area, creating a more enjoyable place for locals and visitors to relax, play and connect with nature.

  • CBD upgrades:

    • Beautifying roundabouts - Banna/Jondaryan, Banna/Ulong and Banna/Crossing Roundabouts

    • Replacement of street banners

    • Memorial Gardens entrance

    • Power and data upgrades

    • Median strip enhancements

    • Shared pathways

    • Irrigation

    • Tree maintenance and surrounds

    • Modification of and additional tree lighting in Banna Avenue

The Roads, Parks and Pathways Enhancement Committee will consider different concepts at their meeting in November. Once endorsed by Council in December, the plans will be exhibited for community input.
